See a century of priceless images on our archive
The Leicester Mercury's pictures archive continues to provide a wonderful walk down memory lane.
The gallery containing an ever-growing collection of priceless images is now up and running on our website.
The photographs are from our vaults and capture the life and times of the people of Leicester and Leicestershire, captured by generations of talented Mercury photographers. Some of the images will be familiar to the regular readers of our Mr Leicester nostalgia pages.
Here, we feature a picture of The Bay City Rollers and their appearance at Mallory Park in 1975.

As our snap shows, the group took to the water – and fans were so desperate to get to the Rollers they jumped in. There is also a glorious shot from 1970, in the days when our binmen hoisted heavy metal dustbins onto their shoulders.
Mercury chief photographer Andy Baker said: "The picture gallery contains some wonderful images capturing a myriad of events over more than 100 years.
"If anyone sees themselves in the photographs we would love them to contact Mr Leicester with their memories."
All of the images are available to buy. To view and purchase the pictures, visit:

“Remove the space between the slash and "leicestershire" and the link will work...........however, there are lots of free images of Leicester and Leicestershire on the web. The choice offered by the site referred to in the article is VERY sparse.”

“This photo site is pretty rubbish at the moment even the dustbin men photo shown here isn't on there...unless the search engine isn't working properly. Another problem as I see it at the moment is that the photos you can see don't have a description of what they are showing so here's a suggestion to the L.M. - why not wait until the photos are all loaded onto the new site before telling people what a wonderful archive it is?”

“Come on Leicester Mercury can't you even provide a clickable link to your own website that this 'story' is promoting?”
