Do us courtesy of responding
I was pleased to read that staff from Asda Fosse Park have arranged to pick up litter on fields near their store.
Aylestone Meadows Appreciation Society (Amas) approached the store, both in person and by letter in February, pointing out the unacceptable and unsightly amount of litter on fields nearby (much of it identifiable as from Asda).
We returned a number of abandoned trolleys found in fields and watercourses, including Aylestone Meadows nature reserve.
We also urged Asda to take responsibility for its trolleys.

While the manager we spoke to appeared sympathetic, we were dismayed that Asda did not even bother to respond to the detailed letter we wrote about litter and trolleys.
In that letter, Amas offered to join with staff in an attempt to deal with the issue.
I hope Asda has begun to take its responsibilities to the environment and the wider community more seriously.
If it wishes to work with Amas, maybe it would do us the courtesy of replying to our letter.
Anne Hayto, chairwoman, Aylestone Meadows Appreciation Society.
What a lovely Sunday afternoon we had at Kilworth House. After a wonderful lunch in the conservatory, we had a stroll through the parkland to the open-air theatre.
By this time the sun had appeared, which added to the view of the surrounding countryside.
The show performed, The Sound of Music, was very professional, with superb singing and believable characters. Congratulations all round.
What a wonderful birthday present from my friends.
I will certainly make a return visit to Kilworth House.
Mrs C Warren, Leicester.

“Watermead-its not the shops fault that the local are not capable of finding a rubbish bin. Leicester must be the worse city in the UK for rubbish because people are to lazy to bin it.”

“What a good idea. Can we now have McDonalds clearing their stuff in City centre[they do not even have a litter bin outside].What about cider makers clearing up Town Hall Square, same for Chicken Maryland in the same area and along Melton Road.Same for all the pizza shops along Narborough Road and Melton Road.
It aint the businesses,it's the customers.”

“Have been to Asda today and was asked if we had our own bags,we always have, and so we were entered into a free draw. The checkout lady hit the nail on the head when she said those that don't bring their own should be charge 10p for each one used. I suggested 20p and then people might bring their own”

“The only thing I would say against Asda which is otherwise a good store is that they still give out disposable carrier bags like confetti. They are tearing off bags for my use even when I am standing there holding the bag I have brought with me. They do seem to be a little behind in that department. Other than that no complaints.”

“Anne Hayto Are you saying that Asda are to blame for the general public taking trolly's and dumping rubbish on nearby land, I don't think so. It's people who have to be educated to clear up after them ( I don't work for Asda by the way)”
