“@ frj1971; But why do they call the emergency services? - call a tow truck. Oh, they don't because a tow truck will charge, but usually the Fire Brigade do not.
That's my point. I can see the issue when a vehicle is being 'swept away' and lives are endangered, but to call out the emergency services when their car has conked out in a foot or two of flood water is nonsense, especially when it was a completely avoidable situation...”

“Why hasn't the road surface been raised after the bridge at Crow Mill? Flooding here must have occurred at least three times in the last three months.
Flooding is likely to become much more common in the future and flood improvement schemes need to be brought forward, not cut as they have been in the last two years or so.”

“I also agree with Graham but a point for frj1971.
You are at home in the Wigston area and your house is on fire, so you ring 999.
Sorry says the Fire Brigade, it might be a while as we are getting some (and I'm sure they would like to say this) stupid brain dead individuals out of water they should not have attempted to pass.
How would you feel as you have an "emergency," and they don't”

“Graham I agree they are stupid for chancing their arm but why should they be invoiced for using the emergency services as that is what they are there for and it is their responsibility to respond.
Once you start charging people for using the emergency services for something that could have been prevented (in which most cases can be) where do you draw the line -do you charge people speeding who have an accident in their cars, what about falling down the stairs and breaking your leg due to wearing furry big slippers (that has happened to somebody I know), what about attempted suicide. Who do you charge if people are actually killed in accidents that could have been avoided, the next of kin ?”

“I drove along Sileby Road, Cossington on my way home from work yesterday and when I saw how deep the flood water was I turned around and went round Blythe Hobby Horse.
Why do car drivers think they can just drive through deep water? Madness.”

“We walked o crow mills yesterday afternoon, it was about 3-o'clock we stood and watched the cars / vans going through the flood, and it was deep, we were on the raised walk way there, and we both said it is only a matter of time before a car is not going to make it through, looks like we were right, most cars did turn back

“Both these spots are known flood points - whether the drivers are local to the area, or travelling through unknown territory for them, they 'chanced their arm' in proceeding through the water - I hope they are sent an invoice for the Services' costs...”
