You decide where salt bins will go
One hundred new salt bins are to be installed around the city.
The move is part of a £400,000 scheme to improve highways and will increase the number of salt bins in the city to 300.
-

However, before they are installed, deputy mayor Rory Palmer is asking members of the public to suggest locations for them.
Coun Palmer said: "With the current freezing conditions, residents will be well aware of streets that would benefit from a community salt bin to treat icy pavements.
"We plan to install 100 salt bins and want to be sure we hit the spots where they will be most use.
"The best way to decide these new sites is to ask the people who know first-hand."
Suggestions should be sent by February 25 to Rory Palmer, Deputy City Mayor, Town Hall, Town Hall Square, Leicester LE1 9BG, or by e-mail:

“My main comment was the money could be used to help keep the City tidy for 52 weeks a year.Of course that would mean the people of Leicester using them!Something they seem to fail to do at present.Maybe because the ones you can find are full or they are just plain ignorant.”

“Sorry, I'm forgetting aren't I that you are targeting ' your clowncil', to use your silly terminology, and using any excuse you can to do so.
Might be a good idea though to put the blame for lost jobs at the door of the present dogmatic behaviour of the man who believes only he is right in everything he does, Mr Cameron.
Regarding the issue of 'health and safety', perhaps it should also be borne in mind that the same man, with his 'Big Society' ideas, would have us all doing everything for free, doing the jobs of librarians, social workers, and a multitude of other jobs requiring paid labour. Not sure that even he considered the H & S aspect of his proposals.”

“NOT peevish at all. This is a clowncil that has got rid of cleaners and cleaning machines. You may not have noticed in your"close".I think that litter bins are needed for 52 weeks of the year.Salt for a few.Another silly idea comes to mind ..........if ,as suggested ,there are people willing to do the work that are no longer being carried out by clowncil workers{sacked} are they covered under the health and safety laws[nonsence].Imagine the claims that will kick in .”

“lissabeth:
Why the peevishness, and why is it a silly idea ? I would think there will be many people quite happy to spread salt if it's available, in order to make their own particular area safer for walking.
I'm sure there would be no problem spreading salt on the footpaths in the Close where I live, if there was a bin full of it close by which we could use.
Unfortunately I live in the county not the city, and there is no chance of the County Council making an offer to provide salt bins to localities we suggest.”

“Another silly idea from porky but gets him in the news.A simple question.....who is going to spread the salt ?If the clowncil has this money ,unused, can we have more litter bins ?After all .....we are an Enviromental City!!”
