The Leicester and Leicestershire delegation was at MIPIM to promote 29 development schemes.

The projects showcased included the Motor Industry Research Association's £300 million technology park, near Hinckley, which has been given enterprise zone status by the Government and is set to create 2,000 jobs.

Other projects included the Roxhill development, in Castle Donington, which could create about 6,000 distribution jobs, as well as Loughborough Science Park, which hopes to create 4,000 jobs.

The near-empty St George's Central – widely known as the Blue Tower – was among the Leicester development sites which will be publicised at the conference, which took place last Tuesday to Friday.

The team hosted a stand in the main exhibition hall, which featured an image of Richard III after the discovery of his remains in a Leicester car park brought the city worldwide publicity last month.

City mayor Sir Peter Soulsby and county council leader Nick Rushton hosted a seafront drinks reception for potential investors.

Official delegations to MIPIM have previously sparked controversy because a lot of the cost was funded from the public purse. However, the lack of an official delegation at last year's event left many business leaders disappointed. Seventeen sponsors covered the cost of this year's delegation.

The Team Leicestershire sponsors were: PepsiCo, Lafarge-Tarmac, Mira, Raynsway Properties, Roxhill, Summers Inman, Total Property Solutions, MDA Consulting, Code Student Accommodation, Gateley, Pick Everard/Donington Park, Innes England, Freeth Cartwright, Loughborough University, Lambert Smith Hampton, ProCon and Leicester Tigers.
