“First of all .it was a free vote.A democratic vote that people have died for.
Given the choice of 3 it was fairly easy.
1 had been in charge of budgets, running an organisation and has management skills.
1 had managed a business and was aware of his community.
1 has never had a job and is just a pete puppet.
Choice was easy really !”

“Didn't vote in Leics, because I live over the border, although I have a house in Leicestershire also.
I don't understand who died for this democratic vote. People have died for just about every form of Rule in this country since tribal times, so that comment is a little over the top.
They also died for your democratic right to abstain if that is the argument.
But I didn't vote in Notts either
main reasons:
Too little information was provided to convince me in order that I could make an informed choice.
The candidates made no attempt to win my vote - opting to publish their credentials and manifesto in the depths of the internet or on some morning local radio program.
Not a single leaflet, poster, regional media campaign. Nothing. It's not my responsibility to chase them, if they wanted my vote they should have come and convinced me to give it them.
Anonymity doesn't work well in elections.
Two out of Notts 3 were politically biased, I want the police to be a force for the people and for good, not the guard dogs of a political party. I believe that any affiliation with any established political group should have been kept out of these elections. The candidates applied for a job, with a wage - with responsibility, and the election should have been about how that candidate was going to deal with police issues, not which party they are puppet for.
Funnily enough, the reason there was such a poor turnout is similar.”

“Unfortunately the Con candidate has never lived nor worked in either Leicester or Leicestershire so has no idea of the many problems scattered around.
In fact he has hardly ever lived anywhere except on an RAF base mainly abroad so he has disastrously little idea of the multicultural issues around here.
Added to that he only has experience of dealing with those who have to carry out orders, so he will be completely out of his depth with most of us who have our own ideas of what to do.
No doubt he just wanted to get his hands on an extra £75,000 a year to top up his gold plated pension, whilst privatising as much of the police as possible - after all that is the only reason devious Cameron has for introducing PCCs.
Unfortunately only one person in every thirteen support him and his policies, so he is a complete lame duck and should resign now.”

“bob.....Unfortunately only one person in every thirteen support him and his policies, so he is a complete lame duck and should resign now."
Not quite correct, obviously under our democratic system everyone who was eligible to vote but didn't is showing they are happy to accept the result - whatever it is.
So in effect everyone who abstained is supporting Sir Clive Loader (who does live in Rutland)”

“I didn't vote because I saw the whole thing as too political, when party-politics were not supposed to be involved. Even candidate Suleman Nagdi, by declaring himself as Independent, was actually acknowledging, in my view, that the election was party-politically biased.
joe-blogs: Two things I would like to say to you. 1/. It's said, " Manners maketh a man". To me you appear not to have any good ones ! Or perhaps you have just forgotten how to use them ?
2/. Candidate Sarah Russell is stated in the official booklet published by 'The Secretary of State for the Home Department', as being "An Assistant Mayor for Leicester City Council; responsible for a £32 million budget, lead on community safety, anti-social behaviour and policing issues, chairs the city Community Safety Partnership Board for Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.
So much then for your "has never had a job and is just a pete puppet", and equally offensive bad-mouthing "Scruffy (never had a job in her life) Russell? ".
Unruly rants which I would have thought the moderator would have removed !”

“Joe-bloggs - no that's not what I said - bob491 stated he "neither lives nor works in Leicester or Leicestershire", but he does live in Rutland and has worked there, which is within the police authorities area that he was elected to represent.
Are YOU then saying Sarah Russell and Suleman Nagra would not have been able to represent Leicestershire and Rutland because they are city based?”

“According to the Principle of the appointments, the PCC can appoint and dismiss the head of the Police, but.. the public if they aren't happy with the candidate can issue a vote of No Confidence and have the candidate replaced.. So if you aren't happy and there are enough of you, find out how to get rid, and make your feelings known.
The fact that such a meagre proportion of the population eligible gave their blessing to any of the candidates as a whole means that the leadership of the police force is no longer acting with consent. The very principle on which our Police service is founded. We agree to be policed, but it would now seem we don't all agree with having a PCC in charge of our Police. (not a matter of which one, but whether we want one at all).
I was Registered in Rutland when born - it was then in Leicestershire, and was an Administrative Borough of Melton Mowbray, It has never had it's own budget for Policing, nor has it had any County Policing responsibilities, it is a dependent of Leicestershire for administration purposes - so anyone residing or born in Rutland is entitled to vote on Leicestershire issues, in the Same way that the Isle of Wight votes in Hampshire.
And who is to say that Clive Loader spent all his time abroad on a base - unless of course you are priv'e to his service record, in which case you shouldn't be publishing it. Your perception of the forces is very naïve, we all have families who aren't in the forces and we are all born civvies, and pay tax - and what you may consider a gold plated pension is earned, it's what you get for being on call, separated from family, and risking your life for. And the best bit, it's open to anyone to apply, (with the exception of convicted criminals and certain disabled groups for practical reasons).
If you don't like the guy just say so, but don't make judgements unless you can back them up.”

“reude...so in your defence of ms russel, she has had a job.fine.
£32 million.mmmmmm.
Community safety/anti-social behavior/police and community safety issues.fine.
Well that is ok then.
Must have had a big input in the issue of gypsy site placement and issues associated .fine.
Must have had a big input in the issue of the scout hut at Thurnby Lodge.fine
Done a good job then! The term scruffy is not derogatory. It is based on the observation of her attire, compared with the attire of the ensambled on Rememberance Day.”

“Quote: "everyone who was eligible to vote but didn't is showing they are happy to accept the result"
This is totally wrong and profoundly undemocratic.
As I said, just one person in every thirteen of the electorate supported the Con candidate and his policies. Twelve people out of thirteen did not support either him or his policies.
The lame duck should resign. He is not wanted by a vast majority of the electorate.”

“Quote: "Looking at the amount of money they will earn no wonder they are smiling all the way to the bank."
True. A gold plated final salary pension topped up with a further £75,000 a year, all 100% funded by us taxpayers. And only one in every thirteen (or 7.5%) voted for him!
And here's me thinking that we only received a pension after we stopped working.”

“I voted for Sir Clive because he was the only candidate from who we received any information - a leaflet through our door. I voted for Mr Maghdi second because he was the only other candidate about who I saw anything - a poster on Aylestaone Road. The Labour candidiate was invisible. If those standing for election at any level or any office want people to vote for them they must make contact with the electorate.”

“My reasons for not voting are set out exactly to the T by Chappy1884's first post!
If the candidates want to win my vote then they should come and talk to me, I should not have to go chasing them!
Further more I will also echo the sentiments of several others, I have no idea WHO they are/were or in fact what the role is that they are going to carry out. Sounds like yet another pen-pushing position to me, held by somebody who needs absolutely no prior training/knowledge of what they will be doing?!”
“Conservative Sir Clive Loader is now the crime commissioner in Leicester. What were your reasons for voting, or not to vote and why?”
