Sounds a bit silly to me..
There are simply less applications for new mast, as the existing masts can support the network, and with Television Services going Digital, it frees up band width for 4g which has better propagation and therefore requires less masts per square mile. In Urban areas new buildings are having transceivers and relays fitted to extend range without constructing masts,
and as the link above reports, many companies are sharing masts to reduce costs in both erecting new masts and maintaining existing ones.
Any Building or Construction work likely to cause a disturbance has to be reported, and in a residential area - individual properties should all receive notification. Works outside normal daylight working hours and on Sundays require approval from the local authority.
Any permanent or semi permanent construction for commercial use or above a certain size or non standard use requires planning permission, and all within an affected radius or sightline of tall objects should be given prior notification.
Maybe you ignored the planning request, maybe the constructor was sneaky, either way it's not really grounds for a conspiracy theory is it?”
“Conspiracy theory time! Has anyone noticed how applications for mobile phone masts have virtually disappeared over the past couple of years? I wonder if that could be linked to an incident that i witnessed in 2010. I was woken up at about 3am by a noise outside and peeped out of the curtains. We have a street light just outside our house and two men were working on it, one at the top and the other at the bottom. Their van appeared to be unmarked although i cannot be certain because it was dark. Bear in mind that this is not a major road but a small street on an estate. It seemed strange at the time but then a relative told me how a long running battle for a mast where he lived had suddenly gone quiet. They all seem to have gone quiet! Are they secretly, but with council permission, placing thinner, more modern masts into street lights? Perhaps there is a whistle-blower out there ?”
