“The fact is that the FA could have handled this is a far more professional way that their usual bungling haphazard way.
Many feel, myself included, that the decision to strip Terry of the captaincy was correct but what they should have done was to have a chat with Capello first, out of courtesy if nothing else, explain the situation and what they expect from the captain of England ask his opinion but tell him that they can no longer support that particular player as captain.
I fully understand the fact that Capello feels undermined but had the situation been handled in a more appropriate way then he could have served his contract out.
Who next, forget Redknapp give it Pearce!!”

“I have never been a Fabio Capello fan, just look at England during the last World Cup, we were a disgrace. Now it is time for an English manager, a certain 'Harry' chap?
Mr. Pearce is the temporary manager until they hire someone else for the long-term - could he be the right man?”

“Come on Peverill, Stuart Pearce does not have a cats chance in hell of coming close to achieving what Cappello has achieved throughout his managerial career.
His only serious attempt at club management was a total disaster particularly his complete inability to manage Joey Bartons excesses.
Having said that he has been managing the U-21s for a good while now with some success so perhaps in this instance he would be a good choice as he is used to working at an international level something to be fair capello had no experience of before the England job (well done with that one The FA).
The fact is that the Euros are an easier prospect than the world cup and success has been enjoyed by the likes of Greece and Denmark in recent memory so anyone taking on the job as pretty reasonable chance of leading England to glory.
It wouldn't necessarily make them a better manager than Capello but it might show that English players resond better to an English coach.”

“As an Italian living in Leicester I cant understand alot of the negativity thrown at Fabio Capello over the years, hes only been the best England manager since managers were allowed to pick the sides in 1946, his win percentage rate was 66.7%, actually the 2nd best was Sven Goran-Eriksson with 61.4% and most of you think that foreign managers dont work errrrr think again, but anyway the John Terry captaincy situation I cant blame Capello for resigning over it, who are the FA to decide whos the captain and why, I thought you were innocent until proven guilty in this country so there was no reason to be stripped of it, thats just wrong, if you were managing a Saturday or Sunday team and your Club Chairman turned up and said " Oi Fred, I dont want him/her being captain anymore and took their armband off them, Im sure you wouldnt accept it either”

“@TonyCoach
While my previous post defended Capello to an extent its disingenuous to claim that having the highest win ratio of all England managers since 1946 means he has been the best manager. He had a chance to truly prove this by winning the Euros or at the very least making the semi's.
Both Sven and Fabio had the good fortune of managing England in modern times when there has been an explosion of minnow countries competing in the qualifiers. This increase in cannon-fodder will have had a positive impact on the stats.
How does Fabios record stand up against his predecessors at the actual main event? He's only had one go but he didn't exactly cover himself in glory so while the stats appear impressive they don't tell the whole story.
As a 'foreign boss' at my own club once said 'statistics are like mini-skirts, they give you good ideas but hide the important bits' - his english wasn't that great but you get my drift.
Bonus point for guessing which team I support, bet no-one will get it, unless they do a quick google search that is!”

“Fair enough with your comments MacMonkey74, but only time will tell, because I really cant see your National team doing anything in my lifetime, with or without an English manager and Im pretty confident that their stats will be worse than the 2 foreign managers, but hey we'll see”

Spot on. Capello resigned on principle; he should have been consulted and allowed to put his point of view. His loyalty to his captain cannot be questioned.
As for Harry Redknapp; just look at his off the field record to get a measure of his integrity. Would he stand up for anybody other than himself?”
