“I do not think there should be laws passed on what you can and can't call your children. Names come and go with trends, what was popular ten years ago is out of fashion now etc. If the name does sound like an expletive then yes the registra should point this out but if its what the parents want they should be allowed to go with it, never come across this however so don't think its that big an issue. As for different ways of spelling names again its up to the parents, remember if the kid doesn't like it they can always change their name by deed poll once they're old enough.”

“No it shouldn't.
Why would you want to create such a law?
how would you administer this law?
how much would it cost to enforce this law?
What does it say about society? Would you force immigrants to change their names?
MusicalK, I really thought you were above this. But I have to agree with C10 on this 100 per cent.”
“Should it be illegal for parents to invent or misspell names for their children? Should the registrar point out spelling mistakes? If it's a foreign (or English, but very uncommon) name that sounds similar to a rude English word, should this be pointed out to parents?”
