“The games have certainly brightened up an otherwise miserable summer. The weather for most of the "summer" has been utterly miserable, but, fortunately someone "upstairs" saw fit to bless us with good weather for both the Olympics and the Paralympics.

I believe that our country should be justly proud of both events. They went without a flaw (apart from the incident at the beginning when the wrong Korean flag was displayed - I do hope that they have forgiven us!)

We should be especially proud of the Paralympics, which have been an inspiration to us all. They have rightly been described as the best Paralympics ever, and have shown that people with disabilities are equal to those without. That, I think, will be the greatest legacy of London 2012.”

“No, is the short answer. The weather was so very poor it could not possibly be remembered with affection. Mind you, depends how long you have been living. If you were one year old it might be the best summer in living memory.”

“No - Not for me either - Just because the country had some Celebrations in London,
and Some Games in London - which most of us watched on TV rather than attended,
it doesn't really make it the best summer ever.

1996 - Felt pretty good to me - Euro 96 - No money worries, weather was great,
our music was in demand throughout the world, Lottery Jackpots were big,
Thrust SSC was being touted to be the fastest ever. Petrol was Cheap,
Budget airlines really were budget, the were no immigration worries,
The IRA Ceasefire was holding, There were no major Wars, Russia and the West were
    getting on well.

The following Year - we qualified for the Final of the Rugby World Cup, and Won the Eurovision Song Contest, And to top it all The City of Leicester was about to embark on it's best year of Sport Ever. And Princess Diana and Queen Mother were Still Alive.

This Summer - we've had bad weather, after a drought.
    More Dead from Afghanistan,
    Strikes,
    Recession and Job Losses,
Fuel Prices going up and down
    Food Prices going up.

There have been some highs, Like Bradley Wiggins, The Olympics, Andy Murray, The Jubilee,
but they don't offset against real life - not for me anyway.”

“I just noticed a sea of corporate sponsors all jumping on the Olympic bandwagon, politicians netting a fortune in backhanders and the Queens jubilee as another form of averting our attention away from being stitched up for the price of our flag....so,no,not a great year, nor a good summer.”
