“The point is that Callum needs about 2000 signatures from people on the currect Leicester City Electroral Role. no email petition is any use! I believe it is publicity, I was sent various emails to Callum and he has not responded. There should be enough people willing in Leicester to collect the required signatures, no one seems willing to organise it.”

“It was the usual Con party posturing again. That's all they are good at isn't it - devious dishonesty, spin and posturing!
Let's face it, Leicester people are not daft enough to get rid of their excellent Mayor.
It's just a dwindle of posters on here that are that daft.”

“But wasnt he voted in? Then surely the best way is to vote him out next time? You cant start a petition simply because someone seems 'arrogant' it just doesnt work like that. I dont really know much about him to be honest, I moved to the Midlands in july 2011, and i think the mayor had already been voted in by then?”

“I refuse to analyse any aspect of Mr Soulsby's performance as mayor, pro or con, until he voluntarily forfeits that ludicrous back-dated pay rise.
Public sector pay has been frozen for years. Mr Soulsby was already making several times what the average public sector employee takes home. Why should he alone receive a back-dated rise? In his world-view, does his knighthood somehow exempt him from the general austerity?
When the issue of Mr Soulsby's personal greed is resolved, then, and only then, am I willing to consider any other aspect of his job performance. If the issue remains unresolved, I will do my personal best to help unseat him from office at the next election.”

“It took 34 people to decide Leicester was to have a directly elected mayor. Nine more than Bob491 thinks the petition will get.
The petition will need 12,000 registered voters in order to initiate a referendum on whether Leicester wants a directly elected mayor.
Soulsby will serve out his term, unless he resigns”

“ok..so i just did some background research..and it was 46,948 votes to elect as mayor..so obviously some wanted this man to represent Leicester. I dont know the ins and outs..even pay amount etc as suggested by prog_rock_fan, would not be enough for a realistic petition to be taken seriously im afraid..it really would have to be some wrong-doing :/”

“I agree with disident3 WHY do we need them, they costing us council tax people.money. He keeps telling us he wants public consultation, but does he listen. Does anyone know of anythings he has come up. Has he listened to the public? .
He recently said on the radio he was making his final decision on Hoods close travellers site in the New Year,I don't know why as the ground work has already been started and opened up, after all the public meeting and petition. who will be collecting the dues from them or will they leave a forwarding address.”

“Quote: "Has he listened to the public?"
Gemin, do me a favour, and think what to write before you write it!
He's not one of those Con County types that travel by chauffeur driven car to keep away from us ordinary people; he often travels by bus where he can talk to normal folk.
He even meets people at shopping centres and the like. I can't imagine he would even set foot in expensive millionaire men only London Clubs like the Cons do.
However, if he doesn't come up with ideas that you might approve, that more or less proves that he listens to lots of people with much better, more positive, refreshing ideas, doesn't it. After all almost nobody would think like you do, apart from some right wing posters on this website.”

“sorry, but I have just joined in this debate. What exactly is your problem with PS? Him personally? His party affliciation? The fact we need an ELECTED representative? Or the fact there should be be lord mayors in certain Cities. If its the latter 2 then protest towards the government or otherwise you had your chance via a ballet box.”

“inheritance2 I thought we had dozens of ELECTED representatives already called elected Councillors many noted for their silence. It seems that Peter the Great runs the show now, anyone in his way is removed. Do you want a City run by a one man band or a City elected council. Lets not forget the outcome of the vanishing parking tickets. Is that the way to install trust in our great leader. Openness and honesty seems to be missing somewhere down the line.”
