Too early to predict cost of Cup bid
Bosses behind Leicester's World Cup campaign have said it is too early to tell how much money the bid will cost taxpayers.
The city's efforts to bring World Cup football to the Walkers Stadium have so far cost £113,000.
A contribution of £13,000 was made from the city council's One Leicester fund and the remainder was paid for using money from the East Midlands Development Agency, which is also funding Leicester's rival bids from Nottingham and Derby.
But if, in December, the Football Association picks Leicester as a host city for England's 2018 World Cup bid, more public money will be needed.
The city council's overview and scrutiny board was told last night that it had not yet been possible to put an estimate on what the total cost would be.
The city council's cabinet will decide on October 5 whether to approve the formal submission of Leicester's bid.

“So lets just clarify this - the "East Midlands Development Agency" (an oxymoron for sure) is funding RIVAL bids with public cash.
In short its throwing money away.
Tremendous.”

“Is it just me or would anyone else like to see some transparency from the city council when it comes to the World Cup bid..or are we going to discover afterwards like everything else that there millions and millions over budget. I think the city council should tell us the truth about the costs and put them forward as a vote first before we start spending spending spending.... in a recession to I might add.”
