Help us to find Leicestershire's top school crossing warden

As pupils head back to school after the half-term break, now is the perfect time to send in nominations for our competition to find the best lollipop men and women in the county.

The Leicester Mercury is encouraging parents and children to vote for their favourite school crossing patrol wardens to highlight the important role they play.

Simon Green, 45, who helps youngsters at schools in Little Hill in Wigston, said: "It's about helping kids and having a laugh with them and their parents."

Lesley Pendleton, the county council's cabinet member for highways and transportation, said: "We are delighted to back the Mercury's campaign, which recognises the fantastic job our school crossing patrols do."

Trevor Pringle, director of planning and commissioning for children's and young people's services at the city council, said: "The Mercury's competition is an excellent idea and will give people the chance to say thank you."

To vote for your favourite lollipop man or woman, send us their name and school and the reasons they deserve to win.
