Saturday's Pick: Launde Abbey Open Weekend

Saturday, August 29, 2009, 09:30

LIKE pancakes on Shrove Tuesday and fireworks on November 5, it’s tradition to visit Launde Abbey during the August Bank Holiday.

There’s running races on the lawn, hoopla, home-made scones, lollies that turn your tongue bright red, and the old donkey grazing in the field, bless.

This year, Launde has also arranged a circus and carnival extravaganza, plus a car boot sale, because the abbey could close if it fails to raise a whopping £1million for essential maintenance and improvements.

How can you deprive your children of such rural pleasure?
