Politics in the USA: The campaigns, the elections, and the next US administration
Just three weeks after the US elections two former Members of the US House of Representatives will visit De Montfort University to discuss the campaign, the results, and the future prospects for American politics and policy. Republican Steven Kuykendall has served in elected office at state and local level in California as well as representing his constituency in Washington DC. Democrat David ***** served his Minnesota district for almost a decade, and spent a further decade as a Judge on the Minnesota Court of Appeals. What do these US political insiders, with former constituencies in very different parts of the nation, judge to be the important moments of the campaigns and the most important outcomes of the elections? How do they each reflect on the condition of their own, and the other, major political party? What policies will now be key for the administration? Will Obamacare survive? Will America's foreign policy be an area of policy shift, or stability? Do trans-Atlantic relations have any place on the US political agenda? The evening, chaired by Professor Philip Davies of De Montfort University and the Eccles Centre at the British Library, will feature discussion between former Congressmen Kuykendall and *****, stimulated by questions from the audience. Do come along to listen, and to take part.
