A great sight
Ms Sheri Newby (Mailbox, July 19) should not make blanket statements such as "the participants (of fox hunting) are looked upon with disgust".
A percentage of the population may agree with her, but an equal percentage, including myself, wish to see the ban repealed. I don't ride myself but we are the foxhunting county and what a magnificent sight it is as the dogs tear off, followed by the riders in scarlet.
Foxes are a menace and this is an excellent way to cull them to stop numbers getting too large.

“Well it appears there is to be a free vote on fox hunting and I would like to bet the Act won't be repealed - by whose definition are foxes a 'menace'?
Funny how the story of the London fox was blasted around the media in a very timely manner for the Act to be revisited?
Perhaps the hunting lobby can find something useful to do apart from persecuting animals.”

Where is your evidence to support this statement?
I'm sure all recent evidence indicates that the vast majority of people are against the cruel sport of fox hunting. They do not appreciate the sight of hounds tearing apart scarlet (blood) covered foxes.
Surely dogs that savage other creatures should be put down. They are a danger especially to children.”
