Florist Deb Terrett said: "This and mothering Sunday really is our busiest time of year. People can choose from balloon bouquets, to single red roses or champagne and chocolates.
"Our most expensive bouquet is the 100 red roses at £499, last year we sold two and the year before we sold five of them.
"If people don't want to spend so much they can go for a different colour flower to keep the cost of the bouquet down, pinks for example can be just as romantic."
As well as flowers John Lewis in Highcross has a great selection of chocolates and romantic gifts such as heart tea pots for tea lovers or heart cushions for the home bird.
Men's presents can be a little more challenging but with a bit of imagination it can be done.
Paperchase for example, in Waterstones in Market Street, sell 'I love you' cookie stamps.
They say the way to a man's heart is through his stomach so why not bake him some cookies.
