Are these happy children still around?
Not many months pass without a mention in the Mercury of Wally Bosworth, my late Dad.
As Phil Dyer says ("Such a shame that our club is closing", Mailbox, January 19), it is a sad day when a great working men's club closes.
Yet the photo accompanying the letter is anything but sad. Just look at the smiles on the three lads' faces.
The questions are when, where and who? To find answers, I dug out Dad's scrapbook yet again and found the original photo with the inscription "Xmas 1964", so that answers when.

I presume the event was a Christmas party somewhere with Dad providing the entertainment and living up to his title, "Leicester's Lord Mayor of Mirth".
I'm guessing the lads are about 12, so would be in their late 50s to early 60s by now.
I wonder if they are still around? It would be great to hear their memories of that happy day.
Robin Bosworth, Countesthorpe.

“Why would you take young children into the concern room when there is a comedian on the bill?”

“I remember Wally in the early sixties at the AEI apprentices dinner being booed of the stage for telling jokes that had been on the telly the night before. He might have been a club comedian but not suitable for young ears”
