Full house for home-made Easter egg
Quorn: There was a full house for the Chocolate Heaven evening at the Women's Institute meeting and Tom Phillips did not disappoint with his talk and demonstration of his art.
He told the audience about the various types of chocolate beans and said his favourite came from Peru. It is amazing to think that someone had the idea of crushing these pebble-like beans and making a drink from them.
Chocolate has a melting point at body heat, which is why, when it is put into the mouth, it melts on the tongue.
Tom made an Easter egg, demonstrating how to marble the chocolate and how to make a chocolate rose and chocolate bows to decorate the egg.
The WI secretary was the lucky person to win this egg in the raffle.
At the April meeting, Jay Miller was the speaker on the subject of A Little Of What You Fancy Does You Good.
Jay is a drama therapist and the title comes from the fact that many adults have forgotten how to play like children do and use our imaginations - thus we should all have "flights of fancy" which will do us good!
Dramatherapy is a form of psychological therapy in which clients are encouraged to effect psychological, emotional and social changes.
Jay gave a short demonstration of a dramatherapy session, using four volunteers from the audience.
It was enlightening to see how they each interpreted how to use a piece of cloth in a different way – it was used as wings, an umbrella, a kite and as a tree.
The next meeting will be on May 8 in the Church Rooms at 1.30pm and this will be the Resolutions meeting when members will discuss the decline of the honey bee and what can be done about it.
