This is an insult to all animals

I agree with most of Mike Noble-Feller's comments about vandalism and those who cause it ("Country going to the dogs", Mailbox, February 13).

However I must protest at the description of youths "running wild like possessed feral animals".

Feral animals may be untamed but all animals operate by instinct and only exhibit disturbed or disorderly behaviour when trained to do so or when threatened, provoked or attacked.

Human beings are blessed with intelligence; with skills of reasoning and should know the difference between right and wrong and the consequences of their actions.

To compare the thuggish behaviour of humans to animals, feral or otherwise is an insult to all animals.

Elizabeth Allison, Aylestone.

“Well said Elizabeth Allinson. This is not the first time a similar analogy has been used in headlines.

Funny how the human race that is supposedly intelligent always manages to find a scapegoat for its frustrations.

Thugs behave like thugs. How many actual animals do you see smashing bus stop glass, scratching cars, throwing bricks through people's windows or rolling about drunk?”
