More redundancies are being made at an engineering firm which cut hundreds of jobs last month.

A further 33 jobs are being cut at Schlegel Automotive, of Coalville, it was announced yesterday.

A month ago, the workforce at the company, which specialises in making car sealing systems, was reduced from 336 to 115 when it went into administration.

Situl Raithatha, from administrator Springfields, said the redundancies were necessary because it was proving harder than first anticipated to find a buyer for the business.

He said: "Together with the Schlegel management, we have worked to explore all feasible options for the business."

Mr Raithatha said it was anticipated that even if a buyer was not found, production would continue at least into the new year.

Schlegel, established in 1958, was bought by RUIA Group in 2008.

It is believed the initial job cuts were a result of the loss of a large Nissan contract.

The wife of an employee, who did not want to be named, said: "For people such as my husband, finding out they are going to lose their jobs could not have come at a worse time. Some of them are in their 50s and are going to find it hard."
