No joke – Sir Peter wouldn't have allowed these
In his letter ("Praise for mayor is surely a joke," Mercury Mailbox, October 15) D Scott says I must be joking in comparing Sir Peter Soulsby with Churchill.
Well, he's entitled to his opinion. So here's a few more Leicester City Council "jokes".
The Granby Street underpass farce.
The White Elephant aka "Curve". These two projects alone cost us taxpayers millions of pounds.

The loss of the Bowstring bridge also tickles the ribs.
Meanwhile, in planning application approvals, the booby prize was awarded by the council to De Montfort University not once, but twice!
First for the creation of a student "digs" block that blocks the view of St Mary de Castro Church.
Second, for the ugly menace of the Law School that threatens the Magazine.
Last, but by no means least, to really bring the house down, I give you the never-ending saga of the "redesign" of Humberstone Gate.
I am certain that Sir Peter would never have allowed such a waste of our money on these "jokes"!
Is anyone laughing now, I wonder?
John Burrows, Humberstone.

“Mr Burrows, you must have a very short memory and be of limited vision. SPS is a one man show - it's all him or nothing.”

“Pete and his "pets" rule,at our cost.
A simple question, from a simple person...can anyone say what any councilor has done to benefit their community ?
Trough and pigs seems a ring tone .
oink .oink.”

“Presumably John Burrows has no problem with Soulsby's pay hike, the contempt he showed for the Anglian Regiment or the millions he'll waste on Jubilee Square. As an ordinary Labour voter, it saddens me when the mayor's allies attck former Labour leaders (I guess Burrows and Soulsby go back a few years?).”

“Am I right in thinking that the items mentioned by JB were approved by the same party that Pete represents ?. 2 further ' jokes ' can be added to Pete's CV, the demo of the Belgrave flyover and his obsession with 'Pete's Park' at the top of the high street.Oh I forgot the destruction of the Pump and Tap and adjacent bridge for his friends at the Demont”
