I'm in the right
Thank you G Bannister for pointing this problem out yet again (Mailbox, August 30).
I myself came out of Morrisons on Monday, August 30.
On coming to the lights that you mention, three cars were in the right-hand lane, so I decided to go in the left hand one. I was indicating to go right – as you stated, you can as it's marked on the road.
The lights turn green and off I go and turn but, guess what, I got flashed at by an angry old gentleman.
I really wanted to stop my car and say: "Look at the sign on the ground! I can go in that lane and I can turn right! It's you that is in the wrong not me."
However, I refrained from doing so, due to his age and the way I was raised.
So, thank you, G Bannister. I knew I was right: Both lanes turn right.

“Junctions should be designed so that its easier to get it right than wrong - although the left hand lane is marked to go right, it feels a bit unintuitive. No excuse for not reading the signs and being in the correct lane.
The M1 J21 coming from the south and heading towards Leicester is similar. Both lanes clearly marked to turn right, yet so many people in the right lane cut across the path of those in the left also legitimately turning right.”

“Yes - you are right BUT it is a really silly junction. I don't know why they can't make JUST the RH lane the turn right lane. It is really annoying to be blocked by both lanes wanting (quite legally) to turn right.”
