We should always say thanks to our mum for everything she does – but it's extra important on Mother's Day.

If you think your mum deserves to be shouted about, why not let everyone know how great she is by posting a free message in the Leicester Mercury?

We will be printing readers' messages to their beloved mums in the paper on Friday, ahead of Mother's Day on Sunday, and on Saturday we will be launching our Mum of the Year competition.

One daughter who wants the world to know how great her mum is, is Terri Cooper-Pacey, of Syston.

Her mum, Lorraine Pacey, has overcome breast cancer after being diagnosed in 2010, and Terri says she is an inspiration to everyone she meets.

Terri, 34, who has two children of her own, said: "When my mum was diagnosed, she started having chemo but that made her really ill – she had a stroke then started having fits and lost her memory.

"When she had her stroke, they thought it might be a brain tumour and they told us we should say goodbye.

"She went from being healthy and fit to needing constant care. My mum had always looked after me but we switched roles and I looked after her.

"Everything that has happened has just made me appreciate her so much more.

"She would still always do anything to help me out, even when she was ill. I have two children myself and she's the best nanna ever."

Lorraine, who had a mastectomy following her diagnosis, has now been given the all-clear from cancer.

"She has short-term memory loss from the stroke but, apart from that, you would never know there was anything wrong with her," said Terri. "She's a real inspiration and I just want to say thank you.

"Before she was ill, she worked as manager of a care agency, and she'd worked her way up to that after leaving school with no qualifications. She was nominated for businesswoman of the year in Leicester before she was diagnosed. I'm so proud her.

"I look at everything she achieved and it inspires me.

"And she's overcome cancer and the stroke, as well. She's a very strong woman."
