Jazz: Jack Jones brings his big band to De Mont

Judy Garland called him the best jazz singer in the world, Frank Sinatra was an admirer and he was a major influence on Scott Walker, writes Chris Beggs.

And half a century after he landed his first record deal, Jack Jones is bringing his big band and back catalogue of hits to De Montfort Hall.

It's a chance to see one of the legendary figures of a golden age.

The World Groove Orchestra are at the Peepul Centre on Saturday. Expect tabla, saxophone, flute, sitar, keyboard, guitar and percussion to take you on a hypnotic journey – mixing Bollywood, Indian classical and jazz. Tickets are £9 (£7 for concessions). Ring 0845 310 3344.

For your trad jazz fix, The Priory, Nanpantan, is the place to be on Thursday nights. Tonight, it's jazz and ragtime pianist John Penn's All Star Hot Five, and next week The Welland Valley Stompers feature Zoot on reeds. Admission is now £7.
