Solo pianist John Horler leads this week's jazz round-up

Pianist John Horler has played with American greats like Chet Baker, Zoot Simms, Al Cohn and Bob Brookmeyer, and was a founder member of the wonderful Acoustic Triangle, writes Chris Beggs .

He's influenced by Bill Evans, Chick Corea and Miles Davis, plus Berg, Prokofiev and Stravinsky.

You have an opportunity to hear his solo piano at Leicester University's Richard Attenborough Centre on Friday at 8pm for just £7 (£5 NUS).

Drummer Baby Jools brings his New Orleans Rhythm to Newbold Verdon WMC, also tonight (Friday) at 8pm for £6.

South African Adam Glasser has played keyboards for Martha Reeves, Jimmy Witherspoon, Hugh Masakela and Dudu Pukwana. He's also a leading player of the chromatic harmonica, and you can catch him at Market Harborough's Angel Hotel Sunday Lunch at 12.30pm for £11.

Mark Nightingale has moved from lead trombone with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra to playing with Sting, Frank Sinatra, and Clark Terry and is an internationally-recognised soloist.

Catch him with the Mike Branney/Richard Everitt Quartet 8pm next Thursday at Jazz in the Arts Bar at the Richard Attenborough Centre, Lancaster Road, for just £6.

Alternatively, catch superb Dutch violinist Tim Kliphuis with Notts guitar wizard Richard Smith at The Priory, Nanpantan, paying tribute to Stéphane Grappelli, £6 at 8.30pm.
