Leicester City legend Steve Walsh has given his backing to the Mercury's Support Your County campaign.

The former Foxes captain spoke about the importance of supporting local businesses when he visited Leicester Market on Saturday.

Walshy helped out on a fruit and veg stall to celebrate the market being crowned Britain's favourite in a public poll.

He said: "I think the Mercury's campaign is a great idea.

"It's essential that we all support our local services, such as the market, especially given the current economic climate."

Our Support Your County campaign has been highlighting the importance of independent traders and locally-produced goods.

Walshy also spoke about the importance of healthy eating during his visit.

He said it was something he would be encouraging at the football academy he is launching with fellow City legend, Muzzy Izzet, at Easter.

Last month, Leicester Market was named Britain's favourite market in a survey by the National Association of British Market Authorities.
