Leicester Mercury

I am so proud to have been born and grown up in such a multicultural city as Leicester.

I am, therefore, somewhat surprised and disappointed no-one in Leicester has yet (as far as I have seen) come out and publicly condemned the Taliban gunmen and all others like them, who want to turn their communities back to mediaeval times.

I am so amazed by Malala, the 14-year-old schoolgirl shot and injured in Pakistan for speaking out in favour of education for women last week.

She was so brave in her stand against the Taliban and her determination to continue to receive an education and wholeheartedly wish her a full and speedy recovery.

Thankfully, it seems she is making a recovery.

The world needs more people like her who will stand up to these extremists who seek to violently impose their distorted views on their fellow human beings.

She had the courage to stand up for her right to have an education from the age of 11. She is truly inspirational.

“"The United Kingdom has and will always support people from all different countries. We are the pride of the world when it comes to human aid. Look at such events Children in Need, etc. I just feel other countries have the ability to foot the bill, and have the medical facilities as well to help?"

Really? Other countries have their own regular "telethons" and I doubt wether they would agree that the UK is more charitable than they are. But as a previous user said it is unlikely that they will receive publicity here just as our fundraising is unlikely to get publicity there.”

“@ City_C10; "why is it ALWAYS the UK who does the right/good deed and not other countries?"...

It isn't always the UK, but your perception is so, because your information from our media is tailored to UK interest; were you to read the Washington Post, Der Speigel, El Pais, Le Monde, etc etc, I'm sure you'd get a different picture of things, and if you have satellite TV, there's a number of foreign news channels broadcasting in english too. It's all out there, you just have to look,”

“I would not say that Chappy, as a taxpayer I am more than happy for her to get the treatment she needs on the NHS. However, why is it ALWAYS the UK who does the right/good deed and not other countries?”

“David JCB it's fair to say you don't speak for the majority of tax payers..
You have a right to think what you like.

This girl is extremely Brave, she stood up for what she believes in.
If we can do anything to help her than I don't have a problem with it.
I wish her a full and speedy recovery and wish her well.

I hope when we do withdraw from overseas operations - we don't leave more people
    vulnerable.”

“That is a great point David, we all want the young girl to get better, that is NOT an issue! However, why here, is this down to our doctors or other reason(s)?”

“CGLee The point is not about her gaining the medical care, the point is why here in the UK and not the USA, or other parts of Europe? Think about it?”
