Drug dealer on the run

Detectives have released an image of a drug dealer who failed to turn up at court for sentencing.

Benjamin Stanley Rodgers was convicted by a jury of possession of two class A drugs – heroin and crack cocaine – with intent to supply them, on January 24.

At a court hearing on September 12, Rodgers, of Barkby Road, Northfields, Leicester, was sentenced to six years in his absence.

Since then, police have been making inquiries in an attempt to locate the 23-year-old.

Officers have established he has links to Leicester, Birmingham, Humberside and East and South Yorkshire.

Police said they were hoping publishing his image would lead to anyone who sees him or recognises him getting in touch.

Detective Constable Andrew Osborn said: "Rodgers obviously knew he stood to receive a considerable sentence, which is why he decided to go underground.

"Rodgers was a drug dealer found with large quantities of heroin and crack cocaine.

"It is important he is made to pay for his crimes, which is why we're hoping people will help us find him.

"Please take a look at this photograph. Does this man look familiar?

He has very distinctive green eyes, which may jog people's memories.

"Have you seen him in your area? Perhaps he was staying with a neighbour but isn't there anymore?

"Any information about his previous movements or current whereabouts could be crucial, so please get in touch."

Rodgers is black, about 6ft and slim.

Anyone with information as to his current whereabouts is asked to telephone Det Con Osborn, of Leicester CID, on 0116 222 2222.
