Jazz pianist back in Leicester for solo show

Those who saw Courtney Pine at DMH last month can't have forgotten the inventive pianist Zoë Rahman, writes Chris Beggs.

On Friday (Dec 11) at 8pm she's playing solo piano at Leicester University's Richard Attenborough Centre. This is a Leicester innovation – last year she played her first ever solo piano concert here and it was one of the top five jazz gigs I have ever attended.

Next Thursday at 8pm, John Etheridge presents nine-piece Zappatistas at the Y Theatre, Leicester, playing homage to 60s rock legend Frank Zappa. Treat yourself this Christmas for £14 (£10 NUS) and get Annie Whitehead's trombone and Steve Lodder's piano too! Sunday lunch pianist Teddy Della brings his quartet with vocalist Katie Rogerson to Market Harborough's Angel hotel at 12.30pm. He's played with Matt Wates and Jim Mullen and at venues like Pizza Express Dean Street, and it's £9.
