So provocative
I was in the city centre on Saturday, February 4, when the marches were going on.
Later in the day, I had to go to St Margaret's bus station and at this time the police were escorting the EDL out of the city centre. Just as the EDL were passing St Margaret's Church, a group of people were standing on a street corner shouting through a megaphone, "Nazi scum off our streets." These people were trying to provoke the EDL and cause trouble, which I thought was wrong.
In my opinion, these people were worse than the EDL for making comments like that. Imagine what could have happened if the EDL decided to retaliate in response to those comments.
I would like to congratulate Peter Soulsby and the police for their handling of the marches which appeared to go reasonably well.
Mrs Karen Shepherd, Thurmaston.

“In fairness lissabeth, the EDL were surrounded by police at all times and had no choice but to behave. I don't believe for one moment they would have been so controlled had the police not been keeping a watchful eye on them. And I should note that the hate speech being chanted by the EDL while they marched was as vitriolic (if not more) than anything that was yelled at them.”

“The congratulations are well warranted. The nice uaf outside Highcross/McDonalds entrance behaving and speaking with a modicom of sense[joke]were the same ones that went on ,through Highcross to try and cause the incident mentioned .The sad thing about the day is that,as disliked as they are,the edl complied with the law and scored a few points.
