We can still reach the play-off places, says Leicester City boss Nigel Pearson
Nigel Pearson says his Leicester City side can mount a late play-off challenge.
The City manager was pleased with the chemistry within his squad in Saturday's 2-1 home victory over promotion hopefuls Cardiff City.

The win kept alive City's play-off chances, and they are only seven points behind sixth-placed Hull.
Paul Gallagher's double strike ended a sequence of five home league games without a win and Pearson said there were still plenty of points to play for.
"If we can put together some sort of run between now and the end of the season, as we are 30 games in now, there are still an awful lot of points to play for so who knows what can happen," said Pearson.
"We have to go out and do it. I am still very confident we have more to come.
"I am pleased with the chemistry within the squad because that is always key. But we have to go out and do it on the pitch.
"Our next game is a tough away game at Watford. It would be nice to break that duck of back-to-back wins and follow up what has been a very positive home win for us."
Pearson admits his side have not given the City fans much to cheer on home soil recently but thanks the Blue Army for remaining positive.
"We have drawn too many games at home, I think we have had five home draws," said Pearson.
"Home form is always going to be important. I thought the fans were very positive anyway, regardless of how we played.
"And, in a season where clearly we have under-performed for the vast majority of it, our fans remain very upbeat."
Gallagher returned to the side after being left out last week at Brighton and produced a match-winning performance, to Pearson's delight.
"I would always expect a good reaction when players are left out," added Pearson.
"We know what Gally can do and he was left out, yes, but he was back in and responded very well. He scored two goals but his performance was of a very good standard.
"I think the players know what I want from them, it is about reproducing that on a regular basis. That applies to everyone."

“NORMANDAD 3.40 am , couldnt you sleep dad or had you just crept in from the night club lol . even if we do scrape into the play offs and indeed win ( preferably 5-0 against hull in the final).pearsons team like o neills back in 96 wont be the finished article, no team ever is , managers always discard and replace players. o neills play off eleven , even though succesful was culled by the following season, kevin poole was replaced by kasey keller, julian watts only played half the following seasons games, as did walshy , but that was probably through injury. whitlow dissapeared with elliott and prior coming into defence , parker and taylor only managed half the games ,as lennon and izzet , his new boys were joined in midfield by guppy. while claridge and heskey remained up front, so im sure pearson will do the same , and will probably have more money to do it with”

“Oh the joys of following Leicester City...
We HOPE/WISH FOR/ WANT / EXPECT to win every game...
We know we will ride the the ride of the foxes.. up down up down up down..
But the reality is that "there is" enough games left for lcfc to get into the play-offs. The table shows that the majority of clubs cannot break away from the pack and we need 4-5 wins on the bounce,,,, that's all...
Be Loud for the lads.............”

“But Rodney my son that was then!! this is now. Let's see how far it goes without being let down. As this club has let us supporters down on to many occasions to remember. I am not counting my Chickens just yet, tonight's game will be a telling factor. If we beat Norwich next weekend I will have a different opinion then. But good on you for getting all fizzed up I hope the history lesson about the City follows teams of old especially the MON period. "But in my opinion only" this team is far from the finished product.”

“if, in our last 16 games, we win 8 draw 5 and lose 3 we will finish with 71 points . EXACTLY the same amount of points martin o neills side achieved when they scraped into the play offs in 1995-96 . by this stage martins team had 47 points from their 30 games compared to the current teams 42 . but after the 30th game , martins team had the following six results D D L W L L . leaving them with 52 points from 36 games . this means if we can get 10 points from our next six games we will be matching martins side ( and i think this is easily achievable ). in o neills last 10 games city still managed to lose TWO more games , including the loss against sheff utd , when the fans were shouting for martin to be sacked , and we had the threesome involving martin, garry parker and a cup of tea . true the side of 96 clinched the play off spot by winning all of their last 4 games , but i think now that nigel pearsons side have the bit between their teeth we will easily get the points we need . back in 93-94 when we lost to swindon , we had 43 points after 30 games had a great run of 7 wins on the trot lost 2 out of the last 3 games including the last game 7-1 defeat to the champions newcastle and still got the last play off place 6 points clear of the seventh club millwall. the previous season when we lost to blackburn we had 51 points from 30 games and ended with 77 points and in93-94 when we beat derby we had 54 points from 30 games and only won 3 of our last 16 matches and drew our last 6 games which just shows how teams can blow up towards the squeaky bum period. what i am trying to illustrate is, there is more than one way to skin a cat when it comes to getting into that top six by may , and any one giving up now before the drama really starts must be a pessamist with a giant P . and i hope the optimists out there , take heart from these stats and cheer our might blue foxes on all the way to wembley.”

“Its not over yet
Keep the faith. Even when the maths says we cannot do it, a strong finish to the season is essential to keep the best elements of our squad together for next season and to start the season with the confidence we have lacked during the first part of this season.”

“no1fox, you just need to look at the stats to assess how many points will get us in the playoffs. It isn't about how many are above us, the reality is that no team in this division is currently operating at a 2 points per game average and won't until the end of the season especially when it gets tight at the end. If city can get 8 wins and 8 draws then we are in the playoffs guaranteed. Of course on a completely random note, if we win all 16 games then we will win the league, so its still in the players hands. Something slightly more realistic but equally ambitious could be that we have a great end to the season win 12 draw 3 lose 1 and end up with 81 points which will probably secure 2nd spot.
we care to dream!!
PS whatever he drinks it can't be water but that boy danny can play!!”

“I am thinking that making the playoff's is a very tall order. I would love us to do it because like Blackpool I think the momentum would carry us through to the dream of playing premier league football, however, the facts are stark. We have not won back to back games all season, we had not won at home in over 2 months until yesterday, we have struggled against (allegedly) inferior opposition and most importantly we have not been able to follow up a commanding performance with another commanding performance (see Derby home, Southampton away). If we adopt a positive approach I believe we can do it but too often are approach has been too cautious and we have handed the initiative to our opponents. Watford aren't great and we should recognise this - respect them yes, fear them no!”
