Blood The Last Vampire
The live action, English-language version of Hiroyuki Kitakubo’s revered
animated film centres on beautiful 17-year-old Saya (Gianna Jun), who conceals a
terrible secret.
She is a halfling, the product of a marriage between a human father and
vampire mother, doomed to suffer the same bloodlust as the creatures of the
night she detests.
Armed with her trusty samurai swords, Saya now works for a clandestine
organisation, eradicating the world of the fanged fiends in the hope that one
day she will be granted a showdown with the vampire matriarch, Onigen (Koyuki).
For her latest mission, the teenager is dispatched to an American military
base in Japan to clear up a deadly infestation of her foes.
In the process, Saya strikes up an unlikely friendship with Alice (Allison
Miller), the young daughter of the base’s commanding officer (Larry Lamb), whose
humanity profoundly touches the halfling and compels Saya to look within.
The Last Thakur (15)
An intense contemporary Western, which takes place in a remote town in the
marshlands of Bangladesh!
It’s a novel idea, but that’s the only appealing aspect of this muddled
movie.
A mysterious young man dressed as a private guard and armed with a rifle
arrives in the town of Doulathpur.
This stranger, Kala (Tanveer Hassan) finds himself caught up in a feuding
community.
He attracts the attention of two rival leaders: the ruthless and powerful
Chairman (Rubel Ahmed) who runs the place and the one man that stands in his
way: the local Thakur (Tariq Anam), one of the last Hindu landlords.
Broke and hungry, gunman Kala begins to bargain with them.
He’ll take their money, but he also wants information. He has his own mission
– to find the man who raped his mother.
UK film-maker Sadik Ahmed directs and co-wrote this (with Heather Taylor)
disjointed tale. You will soon be lost and bored.
