Wet weekend in Leicester but great food to be found

“ We ate here early on Saturday evening before the restaurant got busy. Good variety of food on the main menu with additional tempting choices on the specials board. The Spare ribs were fantastic, as was the Shark (on the specials board). Scallops for starter and shark were both perfectly cooked. Service was excellent and it was a nice touch that the chef came out to clear the main course (empty plates!) and seek our views on the food we'd chosen. ”

We love great food, so why not have a look through our menus and fantastic photos.

We offer grazing boards if you just want to nibble at something, 28 day matured steaks to tantalise your taste buds, daily specials if you fancy something different and Sunday roasts for the perfect way to relax on a Sunday afternoon (Oh, and we do breakfasts too!). So, why not come and join us, whether it’s for a main meal to remember or just to relax with a coffee and the paper.

We change our specials boards everyday so there is always something different to try.

Fresh Fish

We use an incredible fish monger who supplies us with the freshest fish and shellfish around.

Matured, Free Range Meat

We use an excellent butcher who supplies us with free range meat, 28 day matured beef and all the best cuts.

Awesome

“I've travelled around the world and eaten in some of the best restuarants. In my humble opinion, the Gate Bistro is up there with the best of them. The menu design, ingredient quality, cooking skill and presentation is amongst the best I've had the pleasure of. The restuarant itself is tastefully styled, clean and has a delightful relaxed and pleasent ambience. The service matches the quality of the food and is served with a smile. There is a passion for quality food here. You will not be disapppinted. First class.”

MOTHERS DAY TREAT

“I was taken here by my son for mothers day - Food and service was excellent. smiley faces all round even though we didn't go until 4pm. Sea Bass was cooked with a lovely fish sauce and cheesecake/chocolate torte to die for! Already decided to go for next family birthday.”

fantastic Food

“This place was recommended to me by a friend so I booked a table for 12 for my daughters 18th birthday, despite us all almost opting for different starters and mains you could not fault the food, it was delicious and everyone in our party thoroughly enjoyed it. The service was also spot on they were so accommodating. I will definately recommend this place and will be returning very soon.”

Really wonderful

“I often go to the gate on Sundays with my partner for lunch and it is INCREDIBLE. Roast beef is always cooked to perfection and the chef is more than willing to accommodate my partners dietary requirements. A lovely place to visit and the food is by far the best I have eaten in Leicester. Really wonderful”

Fantastic Meal out

“The Gate Bistro is a great place to visit if you want to enjoy good, freshly prepared food. I have an allergy which they catered for with ease as everything is made to order. I would highly recommend the fish.
The staff are helpful, attentive and friendly and go beyond their duties to make your meal a pleasant occassion.
I would highly recommend The Gate Bistro.”

Fantastic Local and Independent Restaurant

“I love The Gate Bistro. The food is beautiful, the atmosphere is warm and relaxing and the chef certainly knows how to cook fish. I don't know how they manage to do two courses for £10 but I will definitely be returning to sample more of the menu! If you want a great meal out, visit The Gate Bistro!”

WOW!

“Remember how food used to taste? The Gate matches that and more. I tried the mushroom risotto (wonderful) and a delicious steak with creamy mash. We'll certainly be back.”
