“Sadly, according to another on this site, even if the police did retrieve the stolen phones they'd be nicked again from the police station.”

“You cannot blame the victims. We are all free to walk where we want when we want without fear of being mugged. If the police and courts cannot do their job which is entrusted to them by us then we need to form local militia to police our cities.”

“I agree that there is a lot the police and the council could do to stamp out this problem but a little thought and common sense from individuals would go a long way too. If it's dark, or deserted, then walk around, not through the park. You don't need local knowledge to know a dark, deserted area is only a good area for those up to no good.”

“I am truly amazed that those who question the intelligence or common sense of the victims have been red-arrowed. I would never dream of crossing Victoria Park alone in the dark, walk round it not through it!! The A6 and Victoria Park Road are relatively busy and well lit. Many people come to grief using short cuts; as for the female, she is lucky she only lost her phone. No-one loathes thieving scum more than me but let's not make it easy for them eh?”

“Victoria park is notorious for muggings the problem has never been resolved and it seems to have got worse over the years.
Its about time police and LCC did a bit more about it.
Cossington park used to be realy bad a few years ago with muggings but this changed drastically when they installed CCTV in the park you still get the odd pothead having a smoke but thats about as far as it goes.
There is always a soloution for problems but its up to LCC and the police to something about it.”

“Well westleic, It must be us, because in my book you deal with the symptom before the cause..and if this means applying a bit of fore thought ,common sense or local knowledge,a Local or someone who has attained grades to enter University would not go into a situation of potential danger...”

“Do what they did to clear New York parks of muggers. Send decoys out and if they are mugged it results in a mandatory 1 year sentence-so even bleeding heart courts can't let them off. Mugging has gone out of fashion there.”

“It's the same story every winter and I have little sympathy because the student union explicitly warns people not to walk across the park in the dark but there are always those who think it wont happen to them.”
