1. EVENT: The Victory Show at Foxlands Farm, Cosby, Leicestershire.

Weather permitting (and it's looking very positive) the mighty Vulcan bomber returns to the Victory Show, at Foxlands Farm, Cosby, this weekend will be the highlight of what's sure to be a great weekend. Visit the show and you'll have the chance to see 50 authentic Second World War re-enactment displays, over 200 military vehicles, plus tank rides, 1940s music and dancing, vintage farm machinery, miniature steam train rides, model aircraft and a model boating lake. The show also supports Loros, Help for Heroes and the Royal British Legion. There are over 60 stalls plus food and drink stalls. Gates open each day at 9am

2. MUSIC: Jazz in the Garden at Belvoir Castle.

The private gardens at Belvoir Castle will be open to the public for a Garden party event to raise funds for Vista. Everyone is welcome to to enjoy the rose arbours and take in the tranquil views over the Vale of Belvoir. There will also be lots of stalls, cream teas, BBQ and refreshments available throughout the afternoon. A complimentary drink is included in the ticket price. When: Sunday, gates open at noon and close at 4pm. Tickets are £4 in advance or £6 on the gate.

3. FAMILY: Seaside Special Steam Day at Abbey Pumping Station, Corporation Road, Leicester.

A chance to enjoy the sun, sea and sand, in landlocked Leicester!. Bring your swimsuit and join the museum’s beach or relax while children build sand castles. The event includes traditional funfair, donkey rides, lake, Punch and Judy, vintage vehicles and the museums mighty steam powered beam engines will be running throughout the afternoon. Leicester Transport Heritage Trust will also be running vintage bus passenger services from outside the site. Refreshments available. When: Sunday, noon to 5pm. Family £8.00, adults £3.50, children/concessions £2.50.

4. EVENT: Alcon 2012 at De Montfort University, Leicester.

Alcon is a fun and friendly 1,000-person anime convention taking place over an four days - September 6 to 9 at Leicester's De Montfort University! Cosplays, japanese culture talks and parties too.

When: Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday. It's on from noon to 1 am. £35 for 4 days/£15 for 1 day

5. COMEDY: Adam Bloom at The Y Theatre, Leicester .

There's not one but two opportunities to see Adam Bloom one of Britain's most inventive comedians. He has performed sell-out solo shows at the Edinburgh Festival with his trademark motormouth style and dazzling funny jokes. When: Saturday and Sunday. Tickets £10 / £8 concessions

6. MUSIC: Kingsize + Special Brew at The Donkey, Welford Road, Leicester.

The Leicester All Ska's Band, Kingsize returns to a favourite haunt and top live music venue. Enjoy a night of perfectly formed and performed ska and reggae tunes. Get there early to catch Coventry Ska band Special Brew. When: Saturday, 8:30pm to 11:30pm. Tickets: £6.00

7. THEATRE: Calendar Girls at The Little Theatre, Dover Street, Leicester.

A chance to see The Calendar Girls in the flesh at The Little Theatre. It was lucky enough to be one of several amdram groups taking the opportunity to perform the show after the dramatic rights were released this month. It's a "very British story, with a very British heart, Calendar Girls is based on an uplifting and very inspiring true story that is quirky, poignant and hilarious." When: The run starts on Friday at 7.30pm and ends on Saturday, September 15. Tickets: £12.60.

8. MUSIC: Bandstand Marathon at Abbey Park, Leicester.

One of the 500 events taking place in bandstands, parks and open spaces across the country as part of the official closing celebrations of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. When: Sunday.

9. FAMILY: The Miners' Gala at Snibston Museum.

The fifth miners' gala is a free event for all the family and includes a wide selection of events, stalls, exhibtions including a horticultural show, free entrance to the museum, live music, food and gift stalls, children's coal queen and miner's fancy dress, colliery tours, train rides plus lots more. When: Saturday, 10am to 5pm.


10. SPORT: Tigers in the Park at Nelson Mandela Park, Leicester.

Leicester Tigers’ first home game of the 2012-13 season kicks off in this weekend against Worcester Warriors. ‘Tigers in the Park’ also returns at 11am – kick off (3pm) on Nelson Mandela Park, with live music, activities for kids, food and drink, shopping, players and more. Park entry is free. When: Saturday, 11am to 3pm.
