A smashing time was had by all at Husbands Bosworth Conker Championships

Wellies were wanged and conkers crushed yesterday, all in the name of good causes.

Husbands Bosworth Conker Championships raised money for the Parkinson's Disease Society and village amenities.

More than 50 competed in the conker competition, with 100 trying welly wanging.

Organiser Suzanne Dhillon said: "We had a bit of a job getting conkers because the ones locally hadn't fallen, so we had to go to Northamptonshire.

"It's nice to do something for charity and improve things such as the church hall.

"We decided on the Parkinson's Disease Society this year because a couple of gentlemen in the village have been diagnosed with it."

Entertainment was provided by South Leicester Ukulele Group and morris dancers.

The event is expected to raise several hundred pounds.
