What snake was hiding in woods?
Can anyone identify this snake basking in the autumn sunshine?
We were out walking in Fineshade Woods, near Rockingham, a favourite haunt full to brimming with trees, flowers, wildlife and birds.

While investigating a decomposing woodpile, a shuffling in the undergrowth eventually revealed itself and posed for the picture.
Having searched nature books and the internet, it could be an adder? I'm sure a local herpetologist will come to the rescue.
