Blur's Alex James caves for cheese

Friday, July 03, 2009, 11:53

Blur star Alex James is going underground for his latest career move - he wants to create caverns for his cheese-making.

The bass player - newly reunited with his hit band for a series of huge shows - has been expanding his farming empire in recent years and his Blue Monday cheese is now being stocked by Sainsburys.

But now he is hoping to create a subterranean larder to mature and store his dairy produce.

"I'm building caves to make cheese in," he said.

He said a friend had told him that popping the cheese in a cave acted like "a big walk-in fridge".

James, who has a farm in the Cotswolds, has now called in planners to discuss his next move.
