Athletics: Club duo shine in triathlon
The event involved a 400m swim, 23k bike race and 5k run. Cole was 13th overall in 1hr 6min 27sec while McNamara was 93rd in 1-15.39.
Paul Jarvis took part in the Humber Sprint, which featured a 400m swim, 20k bike and 5k run.
Jarvis finished in 1-14.09 which put him 17th in his age group and 51st overall. The event was also significant for Malcolm Oxley, who was completing in his first triathlon.
Charnwood were also well-placed in last weekend's Leicester half-marathon, with all the club's competitors inside the top 500.
Natalie Barnard was ninth woman finisher – 118th overall – in 1-31.30.
The others to compete the challenge were Melissa Handford (27th woman, 237th overall in 1-38.42), Carolyn Osborne (43rd woman, 373rd overall in 1-45.00) and Julia Blewitt-Jenkins (456th overall in 1-47.48).
There was local success in the Malta National Triathlon Championships.
Hinckley and Market Bosworth 1485 Tri Club and North Warwick-based Venom Tri Club took part standard and sprint distance races.
Linda Whitelegg won the female veterans category in the standard distance event of a 1.5km sea swim, 40km cycle ride and 10km run in 2hr 35 min, and finished 16th overall.
William Livingstone was top man for Venom, taking ninth in a time of 2-28.
Hinckley's Mark Nixon finished 17th after suffering a puncture during the cycle event and clubmate Joe Brooks was one place behind.
In the sprint event – 850m sea swim, 20km cycle ride and 5km run, Hinckley's Chris Willis came third overall in 1-18, just ahead of Steve Robinson, the gap being four minutes.
In her first tri water competition, Jo Cox was second female overall in 1-24.
