Athletics: Leicestershire's Tim Hartley and Gordon Lee help England clinch Masters cross-country
England grouped magnificently to take the first four places in the M40 event, which also involved the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
Hartley, running for Charnwood, took the individual honours over the 8k distance for the second successive year in a time of 28min 04sec. Andy Ward was second in 28.15.
Leicester Coritanian Lee, making his England debut, was third in 28.34 with Paul Ward fourth in 28.40.
In the men's over-45s event, Coritanians' Rob Sheen competed for Wales and helped them to third spot. He finished 13th in 31.39.
Charnwood's Clare McKittrick played a significant role in England women's success in the F35 category.
McKittrick was third overall and the second over-35 in 24.06 over the 6k course. It was also her debut in the event.
Huncote's Nicki Nealon also competed for England in the F40 category and was 12th in 26.13.
Danny Keating, a "new signing" for Coritanians from Corby AC, took part in the support race over the same course as the international.
Keating, an M40 runner, finished in a time of 31.55 for seventh spot.
The fourth round of the Leicestershire & Rutland Secondary Schools Cross-Country League takes place at Lutterworth tomorrow (10.30am).
