Bowls: Don Welch wins Leicestershire Champion of Champions final
His opponent, Stuart Millidge (Hinckley), started strongly and surged ahead 8-0.
But Welch fought back and picked up three threes and two fours to win 21-12.
This was part of a day featuring the finals of the events which are not qualifiers for the national championships at Worthing.
The unbadged semi-final between New Lount and Shepshed was close until the halfway stage when New Lount pulled away to win by 10 shots
It was even tighter between Battram and Burbage.
That contest went to an extra end with Battram winning by one shot.
In the final, New Lount were nine shots up at five ends, 23 ahead at 10 ends and 24 at 15 ends.
There was no way back for Battram as New Lount won 53-25.
The rink of R Mayne, N Hurst, T Pickford and Mark Simpson won by 16 shots and the rink of B Forgham, A Smith, A Bass and S Brown won by 12.
Roy Rogers (Scotlands) went 10-0 up after seven ends of the secretaries' singles final.
However, Eddie Hart (Knighton) hit back to cut the deficit to 10-6.
Rogers scored four, one, one, two and two to lead 20-8. Hart picked up a one and a two but it was too late as Rogers clinched the match 21-11.
In the two-wood triples final, Leicester's Ken Frost, Lawson Bailey and Shane Hayes were one shot up after five ends against Bagworth's Nick Wardle, Josh Brooks and Ken Brooks.
Bagworth rallied to be two shots up at 10 and five ahead after 15 before Leicester picked up two twos.
Bagworth went six shots up with one end to play and Leicester conceded.
The mixed pairs final between Kibworth's Zoe Eisler and Simon Trueman and Kingscroft's Rosemary Groves and New Lount's Mick Smith was a low-scoring contest with nine ones and a two over the first 10 ends.
At that stage Kibworth were five shots up.
They were still four shots ahead after 15 ends and four up after 19.
But they dropped a four on the 20th and it was 14-14 going into the final end.
Both teams had a close bowl early on with no-one able to tell who was holding the shot.
Those two bowls were still the closest at the end so the umpire was called on.
After measuring for shot, the umpire awarded the shot to Kibworth who took the contest 15-14.
