Cricket latest: County let Derbyshire off hook

Thursday, July 02, 2009, 13:30

Leicestershire's bowlers served up a mixed bag on the third morning of their Championship match against Derbyshire at Derby.

They picked up three valuable wickets but the discipline they had shown on day two was missing, allowing the home side to score freely.

By lunch Derbyshire had reached 310-5, recovering from the loss of Garry Park and Dan Redfern inside the first eight overs of the day.

Park added just two to his overnight score of 70 before slow left-armer George Walker had him smartly taken at slip to claim his first wicket since returning to the Leicestershire fold.

Jim Allenby then had Redfern caught behind attempting to hook. With Derbyshire on 213-4 and the new ball looming Leicestershire looked to be in a healthy position.

They let the initiative slip with a succession of loose deliveries, Derbyshire progressing at better than four runs an over throughout the session. The only other success of the morning was the dismissal of Wavell Hinds, caught behind off Iain O'Brien for a punishing 40.
