Hammond looks set for extended stay at Tigers
The 30-year-old Kiwi has played two games at blind-side in as many days for the club after answering an SOS call from Tigers head coach Richard Cockerill.
A sterling 69-minute performance as a substitute against South Africa on Friday night was followed by another solid 80 minutes at Leeds on Sunday.
Short of back-row resources with Craig Newby injured and Lewis Moody, Jordan Crane and Tom Croft being called-up by England, Cockerill was impressed by what he saw from the former Wellington man.
He suggested that Hammond's intended short stay could end up being a longer one.
"He has been a stalwart of Nottingham for many years and we have heard a lot about him," said Cockerill.
"It was a good opportunity to have a look at him last weekend.
"He wasn't due to play on Friday but, because of Ben Kay's call up to the England squad as cover, he got on the bench and then got on the pitch early after Brett Deacon's injury.
"He showed up well against Leeds as well and did a great job for us.
"He tackles well and he knows how to play. He is wise and wily. He hits well and gets on the ball.
"There may be a little bit in that for us."
Hammond said he was delighted after a whirlwind couple of days and said he would jump at the chance to extend his stay at the club if given the opportunity.
"I would be back tomorrow if Cockers asked me," he said.
"I asked him if I could keep my shirt after the Leeds game on Sunday but he said I might be needing it again.
"I have really enjoyed the last few days and I think the style Leicester play suits me because I don't mind getting kicked around.
"I try to hit as many rucks and make as many tackles as possible.
"If I get an opportunity again, I would love to come back.
"If I don't, at least I can say that I have been there and done it and played against the world champions, who we have knocked over on a day that will go down in history. It has been a great couple of days and something that I will remember for the rest of my life."
Tigers winger Lucas Amorosino is a major doubt for Argentina ahead of this weekend's Investec Challenge showdown with England.
Amorosino damaged a calf in the Tigers' 28-17 LV= Cup defeat at Leeds on Sunday – his second game in just three days after helping Leicester beat South Africa on Friday night.
The 24-year-old, who moved to Welford Road after playing for the Pumas against England in June, is undergoing scans on the injury.
