Red-hot Matty Fryatt fires Leicester City to victory over QPR

Matty Fryatt struck a precious double as terrific Leicester City stormed into the top two of the Championship at Loftus Road last night.

Fryatt, without a goal in six games, picked just the night to recapture his scoring touch with strikes after 37 and 62 minutes.

And City did it after rallying from behind against the West Londoners, who led through an Adel Taarabt goal.

Nigel Pearson's team were facing an arduous task against a side at the top of their game with three consecutive wins and four goals in each of them.

Pearson again shuffled his pack and made two changes from the starting line-up at Reading on Monday night with Dany N'Guessan making his first start for just over a month and Bruno Berner returning at left-back in place of Manchester City loanee Ryan McGivern.

It was a pulsating start with City threatening first as Martyn Waghorn just failed to connect with a right-wing Matty Fryatt cross.

After seven minutes, Wayne Routledge burst clear to shoot just wide of a post and Akos Buzsaky also broke clear of his markers and looked to be in with a chance of a shot until Robbie Neilson's timely intervention.

Waghorn, who was terrific from the off, capitalised on a mistake by Damion Stewart and shot straight at Radek Cerny.

The exhilarating action continued as Fryatt jinked his way through a posse of defenders only to be denied a shooting opportunity by Kaspars Gorkss. City thought they were in front when Waghorn turned home an N'Guessan cross after 14 minutes but the strike was ruled out for offside.

Taarabt went close for the home side, fizzing a shot just over the top, and Fryatt had an angled shot straight at the keeper. This was thrill-a-minute stuff.

Weale, now regarded as City's best keeper since Marton Fulop, showed his excellence after 26 minutes, brilliantly tipping away a Alejandro Faurlin free-kick from the right.

Taarabt was the home side's main threat and one spellbinding break saw his shot blocked by Brown.

But the Moroccan was not too be denied after 32 minutes when he worked a one-two with Jay Simpson and provided a cool finish past Weale.

He almost added to his tally three minutes later, leaving Andy King grounded and shooting just wide of the far post with Weale stretching.

City were level after 37 minutes as Waghorn and Wellens worked the space for N'Guessan to deliver a fine cross from the left and give Fryatt a headed chance from four yards to end a run of six games without a goal.

QPR's passing was going astray as City made a good start to the second half and Waghorn was inches away from getting their noses in front as N'Guessan broke clear down the left and his cross just evaded the in-running Sunderland loanee.

Waghorn then dragged a left-foot shot just wide of a post as City continued to threaten the home goal.

N'Guessan forced his way past Ramage and his shot was deflected for a City corner.

Taarabt relieved the pressure for the home side with another fine attempt, curling his shot just wide of a post and a full-stretch Weale.

City were gifted a second goal after 64 minutes and Fryatt was just the player to take advantage. Keeper Cerny horribly miscued his attempted pass to Ramage and Fryatt picked up the loose ball to burst into the penalty area and smash a left-foot shot into the far corner of the net.

QPR battled to get back on terms and Weale made a fine save from Routledge, just after Fryatt had been substituted to a terrific reception from the visiting fans. Weale needed lengthy treatment for a head injury as City battled superbly to protect their advantage through five minutes of added time.
