Triathlon: Loughborough's Hollie Avill wins Derby Midweek League 5k opener

Loughborough student Hollie Avill took the women's honours in the 5k event at the Derby Midweek League opener.

Avill is the world under-23 triathlon champion and used the event as vital preparation for the triathlon, coming home seventh overall in 16min 43sec.

Charnwood's Clare McKittrick, a European team bronze medallist for mountain-running, was the second woman home in 17.58.

The 5k men's title went to Poole's Martin Lewis in 15.48 with UKNetrunners' Stephen Price second in 16.07 and Hinckley's Chris Jordan third in 16.23.

In the one-mile event, the honours went to Charnwood's Paul Harmer in a time of 4.41, with Darren Ridout (Heanor) second in 4.52 and Hermitage Harriers' Paul Gregory third in 4.53.

Beaumont's Diana Lobacevske ran a personal best of 2hr 35min 06sec when representing Lithuania in the Venice Marathon.

She beat her London Marathon time by more than three minutes, and was 31st overall and the ninth female.
