Dozens of youngsters and their parents took the chance to look behind the scenes of a production of the pantomime Dick Whittington.

The Concordia Theatre, in Hinckley, opened its doors on Saturday morning so younger patrons and their friends could meet members of the cast.

Lisa Bengi and her three year old son, Cosar, met Dick Whittington himself.

Lisa, from Earl Shilton, said: "We went to see the pantomime last week and Cosar really loved it. King Rat was his favourite and he really enjoyed meeting the cast."

The two-hour session was organised by the Pantomime Company, which is staging the production. It followed a similar event last year.

A spokesperson for the theatre said: "People had the chance to walk around the auditorium and go on stage, giving them an opportunity to see how the magic works behind the scenes."

Laura Elberstone, from Hinckley, and her four-year-old daughter Eloise, were due to see the production yesterday.

Laura said: "Eloise loved looking at the costumes, particularly the gingerbread boys and girls on one of them."

The theatre is this month celebrating four decades of staging pantomimes after Humpty Dumpty got the show on the road in 1973.
