Am drams: Political tall story thrills

Friday, October 16, 2009, 09:30

Our amateur theatre groups must be taking a bit of a breather (probably gearing up for the panto season) as there is only one show making it to the stage this week, but it combines the elements of comedy, thriller, and musical theatre, writes Lynda Smart.

This multi-faceted show is Bertolt Brecht's The Threepenny Opera, and it is to be performed by Gasleak Theatre Company, from Tuesday until October 24, at Melton Theatre.

This enduring political tall story is set in London at the time of the coronation of Queen Victoria.

The central character is Mack the Knife Macheath, a notorious criminal, who looks set to get his comeuppance, when he seduces the daughter of a racketeer.
