A show of support

If you didn't catch Lady Gaga at the Brits (and it was hard to miss her) then you missed out on a big-haired, lacy-faced unmistakably eccentric Gaga fest. Just an average day in the world of Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, then.

The star is now coming to the Midlands, so the lucky ones who have tickets can expect more of the same.

Unfortunately, The Week couldn't get hold of Gaga. She was too busy dressing up in Kermit the frog frocks and Tweeting to her 'little monsters' to do interviews.

But we have the next best thing, her lovely support act, Alphabeat. Well, Anders SG from Alphabeat (there are three Anders in the Danish band).

Our chat comes just a few hours before his very first solo photoshoot. "I'm actually just having my cup of morning coffee and then going to the photoshoot," he says.

"It's a cover shoot for a gay magazine. It's going to be interesting, maybe me in my boxer shorts.

"I think it's called Boys.

"In the band we're really used to having each other around so it's a bit weird when you have to do things without each other, I guess.

"But it's exciting."

Alphabeat have just released their second album, The Beat, following on from the success of This is Alphabeat and hit single Fascination in 2008. This time round, it's less bubblegum pop and more electro, says Anders. "We're bad at just letting things be.

"We wanted everything to be different this time. We wanted it to be a lot more sophisticated this time.

"We get bored with music easily so we always change and move forward.

"When we toured the UK the last time we started remixing our own songs. It's not that we're bored with the songs, exactly, but we have to keep ourselves interested."

Anders is looking forward to performing the new songs for UK fans.

"And is he looking forward to supporting Gaga?

"It's a huge opportunity to reach a lot of people, we're very excited about it," says Anders. "I don't think anyone in the band is a diehard fan, but if you're a fan of pop music it's hard to avoid Lady Gaga because I think she is the best pop star in the world right now."

Yes, yes, we know all that.

But what are the thoughts on the lady herself?

Is she as mental in real life? Does she still carry that teacup everywhere? Can she really walk in those ridiculous shoes?

These are the questions we need to know.

"I think she's very aware of everything she does," says Anders, diplomatically. "I actually think she's a very nice, normal person."

Info

Lady Gaga's date at the Nottingham Trent FM Arena on Monday has been postponed. But you can catch her and Alphabeat at the Birmingham LG Arena tomorrow.

The band have yet to confirm if they will be supporting Gaga at the rescheduled Nottingham date on Thursday, May 27.
