Leicester City's lofty position in the Championship may have surprised many people – but not striker Matty Fryatt and his team-mates.

After the 2-1 victory against QPR at Loftus Road on Friday night, courtesy of a Fryatt double that took his tally for the season to 10, City sat briefly joint-top of the table.

City dropped down to fourth following West Bromwich Albion's emphatic win over Watford at the weekend, but victory over the Baggies at the Walkers Stadium on Saturday will fire Nigel Pearson's side back towards the summit.

City were certainly not discussed as candidates for automatic promotion before the season kicked off, but their excellent form has certainly started to attract attention.

Although a few eyebrows have been raised elsewhere at the emergence of City as promotion candidates, Fryatt insists there was no such shock within the City camp.

"Outsiders may put us down as a side that isn't going to be challenging, but we might have surprised a few with the position we are in now," he said.

"We did well last season and we want to keep that going. We just want to keep moving in the right direction.

"Bruno Berner worked out that an average of two points a game would give us an automatic promotion place and 1.6 a game would give us a play-off place.

"We go into every game looking to get those three points, but within the team there is the focus to get into the Premier League one day, whether it is this season or not.

"It is a goal we have all got, so we are just going about our own business."

Fryatt said the squad would play down all talk of City's promotion credentials and would guard against getting carried away with their recent success.

"It is other people talking about us, but we will play it down and do the right things and carry on trying to achieve what we want to achieve," said Fryatt.

"I think from the outside no one saw us doing anything. We have got something we want to achieve and at the minute we have started quite well.

"This season is different for the club, not just myself, from the situation we were in a couple of seasons ago.

"This year we have come in to the league after winning the title quite convincingly last season.

"That confidence and momentum is there and we have acquitted ourselves quite well."

“Again a good point from Lisa. On top of that, recent performances have shown DJ can't stay onside and loses/ gives away the ball far too easily. Tony's obsession with him is getting rather worrying!

As NP has proven time and time again this season (with the QPR game being a case in point) he will select the team with the best chance of minimising the opposition's strengths and winning the game - so let's just leave him to it.

As for Matty - great scoring record so far this season and proving all the doubters wrong. Keep it up!”
